What started as a small thing has exploded into something that has impacted literally hundreds of thousands of lives across the Philippines. In the late 1990’s we requested just a small number of shoeboxes to accommodate our small Christmas party for the children of prisoners. Little did we know that this request would develop into a partnership with Samaritan’s Purse with us coordinating their Operation Christmas Child project across the entire Philippines.
In those early days it was mostly us and our staff doing the legwork. Today we have a strong leadership team of Filipinos that serves together with us to coordinate this enormous outreach.
Each week we hear stories of how previous distributions have impacted the lives of children and at the same time we regularly get requests from other churches to participate in future distributions.
The Philippines is geographically fragmented with several thousand islands. Each year we set a strategic geographic target area so that the impact of the project can be more effective. This year our target is for the islands of Samar & Leyte. The island of Samar is largely unevangelized and less than 3% of its residents claim to have a personal relationship with Christ.
If you want to be involved, there is still a few weeks. The week that all the shoeboxes will be collected in the U.S is November 15-22. If your church is not already involved, you can click the link below for a list of dropoff locations.
Please pray for our upcoming distribution. As always pray for the overwhelming task of logistics – that God would once again intervene in the process of customs clearing and proper documentations. Also pray that God would God would prepare the hearts of the more than 80,000 children who will receive gifts this year in the Philippines.
